Search the Louisiana Secretary of State business filings to investigate the availability of a chosen business name or to review the details of a registered entity, trademark, or service mark. Names of active LLCs or corporations, or those that have been revoked within the last three years, are protected and cannot be used by new businesses.
Business Entity Search
1. Navigate to Business Filings Search Page
2. Enter Search Data
Select the first available radio button, Search by Entity Name, then enter the desired name in the available field. Click Search when ready.
If researching existing companies or marks to review company info or obtain certificates/certified copies, select from the three options under Search Type. The options include:
- Entity name
- Charter number, trade registration number, or name reservation number
- Officer name or registered agent name
3. Go Over Search Results
If the next page displays zero results (see image), there’s a strong chance that the name is available, although it cannot be guaranteed until the registration documents are submitted.
If there are matches found, a list of results will appear with names that are similar or identical to that entered on the homepage. Clicking Details next to any listed item will present that entity’s info.
4. Review Detailed Record
The details page will present all publicly available info on file with the Secretary of State:

- Previous names
- Charter number
- Registration date
- Domicile (physical) address
- Mailing address
- Status (active or inactive)
